New to multiple myeloma and need to chat

Less than one minute read time.

My husband found out today that his chronic back pain is myeloma, we are due to see a specialist at our local hospital on Friday.  He spent the whole of July and August at the osteopath having all sort back treatment, then he went to the doctor after the osteo said he was concerned and suggested the doctor. Put on pain killers and diazapan until last week when suddenly all the stops were pulled out and x rays three blood tests and then todays thunder bolt.  Our daughter has just got engaged will my daughter have her dad there on her special day?

I am numb but my husband is working from home in pain I might add although he has patches to use and has a smile on his face so am trying to be cheerful and positive but financially we are not secure so not working is a real worry to him.

I feel better typing this and am sure everyone who has their nearest and dearest receiving this sort of news feels the same as me -

Hi Louise, The news that you have received must have been a shock to you all. I was diagnosed with Myeloma in April 2009. It sent our world into a spin. However, one year on we have faced 6 cycles of CDT treatment and a Stem Cell Transplant.

It has not been an easy time for either of us but by standing firm and hitting it head on, we have managed to face some very tough challenges. I too will be thinking about you in the coming weeks as you face your own challenges work being a major one for you. Your husband will want to be with your daughter on her special day, which dad wouldn't. I feel sure that with all your support and his determination he will make every effort to be there on the day.

feel free to get in touch if you think that I can help.

    Hi Louise

I remember that utter feeling of shock aned devastation. My partner was diagnosed with Myeloma 5 years ago when he was 37. There have been many ups and downs along the way but he continues to receive treatment. I can't tell you how much I think positive thinking helps fight this disease. Get in touch with MyelomaUK - we have found them so helpful and friendly. Happy to answer any questions you may have.... good luck for Friday.

Thank you so much for your thoughts and am so sorry that I have not replied before but have only just worked out how to use the site correctly - a bit of a non-blogger and I hope you don't mind if I put both of you on this even though you are not related!
