Sorry Mavis I have only just seen your posting and your question.  To go or to wait? ask yourself if you are experiencing more symptoms, in particular with your breathing, you will know yourself when things are changing. In the past Alans oncologist has called the shots as to when to have the chemo, with his 3rd line chemo we did wait about a month because we had a holiday and a wedding to go to, on the agreement that we would get straight back to her if we saw things getting worse. I remember having a discussion with her about weighing up when to do it because Alan had been quite well and then I noticed a change in his breathing, told her and she did a scan and it showed there had been some growth. I think its a case of working with the oncologist as well.  Because, in contrast to that, with his 4th line which he is having now we saw a swelling above his drain site and I contacted her and she wanted to start it straight away, and in fact for the first time in months he is able to lay flat in bed again as the lump has gone down considerably. (yippeee)  You could consider arranging your scan for May but agree with the oncologist that if in the meantime you feel changes go in sooner. Hope this helps and you can always email me anytime. Love and best Heather xx

  • Thanks Heather thats is again what I wanted to hear from someone in front of me as I have searching on the net ever since for answers and getting muddled.

So as I have been able to do some gardening today and still go for a walk with the dog I must be very well.

My legs get so tired though on a walk it feel s like the oxygen isnt getting through --just tired but I do feel well most times.

The Lung is sore but they keep telling me thats the Op as the Lung has been interfered with and it takes ages for the nerves to knit back.

I still have these twisted numb hands I do feel a mess at times. ha ha !!

Keep in touch and I do hope Alan is ok through the Chemo --does it get better the more times you have it?

    Good Luck mavis

The oncologist did say before he started this chemo that he would probably have a few blips. He had to miss one week when his neutrophils were low (they beat infections) and then he had low haemoglobin so they gave him 2 units of blood and he was fine after that. I wouldn't say it gets better its just different. With the alimta/cisplatin he always felt like he had a bad hangover (without the booze) with this one no nausea but a few blips with the blood count.

Its been a great day for gardening today !!  Heather xx

    HI Mavis

good to see your fighting spirit is back, I always read your post and find your courage an inspiration. My husband was diagnosed back in October 2010 and we have just started the first round of chemo. He is finding it tough going , he is in his forties and was always superfit so the disabling effect of the chemo is making him depressed. Your posts help keep me positive, so I can support him.

fingers crossed for you on your next round

    Amanda
