Pre-Chemo Appointment: Desdemona's Wake-up Call

1 minute read time.

I'm currently waiting for a second blood test, they missed my HepB check on the first go around, having just returned from getting an ECG. Good news from the first blood test, my haemoglobin up to 101, from 79, but I had to have two blood transfusions to achieve that. Earlier, I had a phone call from my 'skitish' doctor, it had been booked as a face-to-face and we were just about to leave, but he thought it was a phone consult. The good news, the MRI on my liver was clear, no metastases, but he'd forgotten about bloods - that was my first blood test today - then he'd forgotten about checking for HepB - a new requirement apparently.

Fortunately, I had very informative face-to-face appointment with one of the clinical nurses, a lovely lady, who picked up on all of this. As for the rest, I was pretty much prepared for everything she covered, which was very useful because it was a lot of information. My treatment plan is confirmed, I start chemo (Docetaxel) this Friday, then every three-weeks on a Friday for six cycles. I'm also waiting now to get my Dexamethasone which I need to take in advance of my chemo session, during and immediately after - should help with the immediate impact of the chemo. Ah, I've just been called ...

Back home now, blood test done, meds collected, information pack in hand. I'll spend some time tomorrow reading and then organisation the various pamphlets and leaflets. It's strange, I am a little apprehensive about the chemo, but also strangely excited. Desdemona about to get a wake-up call, I wonder how it will respond? Anyway, that's all on Friday, this evening I'm off to the pub (no booze of course) to lead a ukulele, it's great that at the moment my energy levels are back up to the level where I can do this, all thanks to the ADT treatment.
