Chemo Impact, Week 3: Desdemona Back in Check

1 minute read time.

I’m currently awaiting a blood test before my appointment with my oncologist; time to assess where I am before the next bout of chemotherapy. The anti-biotics did their thing and the cold / flu I’d contracted has almost gone. I’ll need to plan a little more carefully for the middle week between treatments for the next round. Other than the last vestiges of a cough, I’m feeling very well at the moment, a little lower in energy than I would like, but I’m getting on pretty much as normal. It’s curious to be feeling relatively well given my situation, but it’s a very positive thing and I’m making the best of it before my next dose of ‘Doce’.

So, this last week has been great because my daughter’s here. She has flown back from Australia for a month, she’s been living in Airlie Beach on the East Cost for the last six-months. It’s wonderful to have her here and we have a number of special family treats planned and some dad-daughter activities. I am so grateful that she has come over to see me at this time, especially as I am fairly well. Off for my blood test now, for some reason it’s incredibly busy in the cancer centre waiting area today, so I’ve had to wait awhile; then straight into my oncology consultation.

The consultation was fairly brief, a quick catch-up on how I managed with the last cycle and any concerns about the next. My next cycle is in two-days time, assuming my blood-work is fine. I guess I am expecting it to be more challenging, but at least my start point was good. As last time, I’m planning carefully in case I get more side effects this time around. But, of course, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it will be as (relatively) easy as the last one - we’ll see!

  • Lovely to have the daughter here. I am sick with flu, so as useful as a bump on a log. Maybe a quick trip to the supermarket for some ready meals.

You are managing Desdemona brilliantly my gorgeous husband.
