Herceptrin

Less than one minute read time.

Can anyone give me there experiences of Herceptrin.  Have had 3 sessions of FEC and 2 out of 3 Docetaxol(Taxotere) to which I have not responded very well.  After the third FEC treatment went neutrapenic and being in the middle of the second of Docetaxol my blood pressure has dropped extremely low.  Overall this chemo business has knocked my sideways.  I am now questioning the side effects of Herceptrin and would appreciate feedback on how people have coped

I hope Herceptin is as wonderful for you as it has been for me - and for all the other women I know on it.  It's not chemo; it's an antibody treatment and causes none of the vile chemo side-effects.  Apart from slightly more tiredness than I'd ordinarily feel, after 18 months of it I've had absolutely no side effects other than suddenly feeling I have re-entered the human race and can operate more or less normally again.  Some (not many) patients find it can have an adverse effect on their heart, but this is actively monitored by your hospital and there are ways of getting around it.

Wish you all the best coming out of the chemo tunnel; I do hope that after all you've been through you find a new way to live happily with our condition thanks to this genius drug.  Just another note from personal experience: don't expect to get over chemo immediately; it takes time for it to leave your system and I recommend being extra nice to yourself.  You've done the right thing by ploughing on with it and you should be proud of yourself.

    xx

I too have had only positive things to say about Herceptin. I have never experienced any adverse side effects to the drug and have been on it for almost 2 years collectively.  I sometimes get a mild headache after treatment and at times do feel tired but I have secondaries as well as 3 kids, a hubby and a dog to look after and I work too so its probably more to do with my lifestyle! I have my heart monitored every 3 months and the Herceptin has affected this occasionally but your onc will explain this to you. I have just needed to have breaks in treatment but again this hasnt caused me any physical symptoms and has not been deemed as serious.

All the best with it I'm sure you too will find it to be ok.

    Love Chrissi xx
