I celebrated the event of Laing’s 58th birthday with Dorothy, his long time colleague and friend. We went to the Oxo Tower where I chose a wine that was hideously expensive (don’t ask) but was perfect for the food we had.
We both flirted outrageously with the waiter and Dorothy was even worse with the sommelier. As ever the food was wonderful, the wine was excellent, the service was better than I remember from several previous visits.
Yes, I am “tired and emotional”, but isn’t that what grown ups do when celebrating birthdays?
On the subject of birthdays, I will be 60 this year and I told Laing we would go to Berlin for that birthday. As he will not be with me, I am spreading the net wider. I am not one for large groups of people, a meal with 3 or 4 is usually as much as I can cope with, but as this is a landmark birthday, I wonder who would join me in Berlin in chilly November? Potential victims, sorry, attendees, will be subjected to my every last caprice. After all, I have a right to be indulged, do I not?
If you have not read or remembered my previous postings (how very dare you?) it is on 9th November, the day the wall came down in 1989, an event those of us of a certain age, never thought we would live to see.
