Is this usual?

Hi everyone, my husband Ken finished his six weeks of radiotherapy and chemo in March. He has had one course of the six months of chemo. He cannot stand or walk unaided, is shaking all the time, and has withdrawn into himself. I cannot get him to wash or change his clothes, and he will only speak to me if I ask him a direct question. This is so hard, because I want to help but I can't! Occupational health came over last week, and suggested various things like an extra stair rail, and a stool for the bathroom, but what's the point when I can't even get him up? He is too heavy for me, and he just doesn't want to do anything but sleep. Anyway, at 4.30am Sunday morning he fell in the toilet, and bashed his head against the door. I couldn't even open the door because he was lying against it. I had to phone an ambulance, and they got him up and back to bed. The ambulance crew left, and he went to sleep, but he had soiled himself, and I couldn't get him up off the bed to clean him. I rang the doctor, who has sent him to hospital. It took four people to get him downstairs. I went to see him yesterday, and he was sleeping a lot, and the staff said that's all he does. What happens now? has anyone else experienced this? I don't know what to expect, but is this normal at this stage? he was only diagnosed in December. How can he come home if he can't stand unaided? He is very confused, and I am terrified he will fall again if he tries to get up in the night. His oncologist told us that he would be feeling a lot better by now, but that is not what we are experiencing, if anything, he is worse than ever. Has anyone else experienced this?

but I would guess that he may have two problems - one physical from the cancer and possibly a massive depression or it might be that the cancer has altered his mind set. I think you need to get the physical aspect sorted out first - is there any physical medical reason why and go from their. There is a massive amount of information available although a lot of takes time to dig out. First stop - the doctor. Good luck and every best wishes

    love

Ken is still in hospital, and seems to be more withdrawn than ever. The staff tell me he is not eating, and hardly taking any fluids either. I think he is giving up although it's so soon. He doesn't even want to speak. I am very worried about him ..........
