Zometa bisphosphonate by drip(infusion)

Less than one minute read time.

Hi everyone

My lovely sister in law has just found out that she has secondary bone cancer(primary in the breast)She has been told that she will be having zometa(a bisphosphonate)by infusion but she has problems with her veins and with canulas so i was wondering if any of you lovely people know of any other way it can be administered, apparently it can't be done with a hickman line.

Any advice would be great

Thanks in advance

Diane

hi diane im sorry to hear about ure sister in law.i dont know if this is very helpful but my dad had zometa for secondary bone cancer and u only have it for a limited amount of time and then u have something that helps to strengthen the bones in a tablet form,so i dont know if thats an option,im sorry i dont remember what it was called but my dads oncoligist said that as far as she was aware it was as good as zometa.hope maybe this helps her.

    good luck.love niky xxxxxx

I too have recently been diagnosed with secondary breast cancer in the bones. I had a dose of radiation on my hip a cfew weeks ago and had my first zometa two weeks ago. It is a quite short infusion, only about 15minutes. My veins are iffy but my lovely nurse did manage to find one first time. usually we resort to hot packs or bowls of hot water! The following two days I was shivery and felt fluey

aching limbs etc and had a couple of days off work. Apparently this type of reaction can occur with the first dose. I have my fingers crossed that that is going to be the case. Hope all goes well for your sister in law. PM me any time

    Hi Niky and Kathy

Thankyou for your replies.Im not sure how many lots of zometa my sis in law has got to have,i dont think they have decided yet.Since i blogged on here she has been to see the nurse that will be looking after her and she seems a bit more at ease about it all now.We went to stay with her last weekend and the poor lady is in such a lot of pain.Like you Kathy she has had radio on her hip and pelvice but also on her skull.I do hope that they can get her pain under control soon, bless her.

    Thanks again for your help

    Love Diane
