RADIO LOOMS!!!!

Less than one minute read time.

So I finished my chemo friday and had my final PEG injection saturday and am thinking lovely nothing more for a while now phew!!!  Yesterday got a phone call from St. Thomas's saying that next week on my birthday got to go in for my initial scan before starting radiotherapy!!  Blimey they are keen.  Not sure what to expect other than being up before the crack of dawn to get to hospital for 08.20!!! will I get my little tattooed dots?, be photographed?, any ideas anyone??

Thanks xx

    Hi Alex,

When you go for your radiotherapy planning you lie down under a CT scanner with your arms in the behind your head while they measure you. It is quite uncomfortable because you are in this position for about 15 minutes. Then they give you the three little tattoo dots. Radio isn't as bad as the chemo it is just having to go to hospital every day that does your head in.

Well done on getting through chemo it does get better from now on. I finished radio over a week ago, got my taste buds back and even my hair is growing, I have had to shave my legs again this week lol.

Take care love and hugs Amanda xx

  • Yeah... I wanted my tattoos to read something like 'I like my husband' or 'Elvis Forever' but, as Amanda says, it is a few boring little dots on which they focus future radiotherapy treatment. At least radiotherapy doesn't hurt - the positions you might have to stretch into might be uncomfortable but the treatment itself is fine. Okay, it can be tiring - especially if you have a long daily commute for treatment, but of all the cancer treatment I had radiotherapy was, by comparison, a doddle.

    Best wishes,

    KateG

Thanks everyone, don't think anything can be quite as harsh as chemo has been, so am thankful should be a little easier, have been told will be shattered but am getting my mum on board for support.  Might ask for butterflies instead of dots .... I wonder!!!!

    Thanks and gentle hugs xxxxx

Hi Alex, I have just had intial appt with radiotherapist and will go for tatooing in 2 week to start it 2 weeks after that. its 3 weeks of radio which just takes 3 mins at most. \on first appt you get tatooed and scanned but i have been told to practise lying down with arms raised for 10 mins every day to help. use aqueous cream for sore skin and shower with 'simple' products only. Ihave my last chemo on friday and hickman to be taken out on monday.

    Take care Kaz x
