PEG anyone?????

Less than one minute read time.

Low neutrophiles, so it was decided that I should have a 'peg' injection 24 hours after to boost production in my bone marrow.  The upside being to keep my count up.  However the massive downside, sunday felt like I had had every bone in my body beaten with a bat!!!!  Feel sluggish and tired, pretty crap really.  Am trying to weigh up in my mind whether tis better to have a four week cycle, (but really want to get chemo over with), or to have a three week cycle and go through this, hmmm not sure!  Has anyone out there been through this.  The nurses said to take paracetamol for pain anyone been told anything different.

Thanks

  • Hi yes had the injection from 4th treatment onwards as treatments were delayed twice. The amount of pain or discomfort varies from patient to patient but i found managable. Also as my treatments progressed r-chop 21, my counts continued to fall and it was only because of the peg injection I stayed on course with treatment until I got shingles just before the final treatment.

I was happy to have it as it meant treatment was no longer an issue, would I get it or would it be delayed so one thing less to worry about.

I also found it prolonged the feeling crap period and you can get flu like symptoms too, but the up side is I was a stage 4b advanced and am now in remmision so a price worth paying for me in the bigger picture.

    best wishes ... john
