Lymphatic Fluid

Less than one minute read time.

Hi,

I'm two weeks post surgery after have wide local excision and lymph node removal for BC.  The problem is that my lymphatic system is all confused and the area where they used to be keeps filling up with fluid.  Have had three aspirations now and my nurse (and I) not keen to keep sticking a needle in and draining.  Have been told this will sort its self out eventually, has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks

There should be a lymphoedema nurse at your local hospital who can advise you on the best course of action.

There's also a lymphoedema group on here somewhere.

hi there .. if there is any sign of infection your gp should prescribe an antibiotic which should keep leakage under wraps .. however .. lymph glands do fill up with fluid and this will happen especially after removal .. it should clear up with aspirations (however i understand that you dont want a nedly constantly stuck in you .. especially near your wound site) this should clear up in time although  understand its not the most comfortable thing to be going through .. the body will adjust to the removal of your gland

antibx should help with the inflammation .. and eventually your body should calm down .. remember uv had a big op and your body is just trying to protect you :)
