Have been told today after only a  week of being diagnosed that next friday am having surgery to remove my cancer from my breast! This is all so surreal, can't believe really happening to me.

Going to be on tablets for five years may have to have Chemo as well as radiotherapy.

This is all so much to take in and this weekend have to tell my two teenage children thats the thing that really upsets me, I just dont want to upset them.

  • Hi Schoolking

I know how you feel it is such a shock. Just take one step at a time.

I have had mastectomy with full aux clearance of lymph nodes, chemo and radiotherapy. I finished treatment in Nov 08 and am taking tablets too.

Join the Breast Cancer Group. Lots of ladies on there in the same boat.

Tell your children the truth as they will be upset if you do not include them in what is happening to you.

All the best for the op. The sooner it is done the sooner you will recover and face any other treatment you may need.

    Hiya,

I've got melanoma, but it's gone to my breast.  Had 3 ops so far on my left breast and 21 nodes removed from my armpit (2 of which were positive). Waiting to hear on the radiotherapy question.  Feel a bit lopsided, but still wear v-neck outfits etc.  have to be a bit more careful, that's all.

I'm about to tell my 10 year old and 5 year old this weekend.  Scary thought, but had some advise from Mac nurse, so get the tissues out and take a deep breath......

Thanks Sue  G and Charley50 , telling everyone is soooo exhausting and everyone means well, work colleagues, friends, family sometimes feel like if you could just have a big banner up for everyone to read at the same time would be so much easier.

Told my children last night and my husband and I were very positive, told them the truth about everything that was going to happen.  Spoke about Kylie Minogue as a positive role model.  My daughter who is 14 bust into tears and my son who is 16 was very quiet then bashed about on his guitar, they are fortunate as they have lots of friends to support them as well, and we are a family that talks about everything!!

Have told both my children about the Macmillan web site and not to research on 'Google' as they will probably hear lots of horror stories.  Telling the children was probably the hardest thing have had to do so far but now its out in the open it really is a relief.  Take care  and thank you. xxx
