Summit crashed out as soon as we got back on the boat, good ole fresh air! We moored up at the Poachers Pocket for a meal and a drink, then moved on a little further to moor up for the night near the Bridge Inn so that Kev could go down for the 'stinky cheese night' but no one else turned up for it, so Billy no Mates came back to the boat, where he found me and the dog crashed out.
When I went to get into my bed, I found a big wet patch on the quilt, great! Good ole Summit Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!
It pelted down with rain alnight but I slept ok avoiding the wet patch!
Tuesday 6th Oct 09
The rain had eased off to a drizzle when we set off from Chirk and it was still fairly warm which wasn't so bad.
The usual thrill of crossing the Pontcysyllte Aquaduct happened, ( video of this on my photos)WOW being above flying birds is surreal and the views are spectacular, though autumn seems to be getting later and later each year. Usually, the boat is bombarded with acorns, but this year, nothing, instead the elderberries are so many that the sprigs of fruit are pulling the branches to the ground, sloes too are in abundance and ripe for picking, as are the rosehips.
Coming down the short narrow run towards Llangollen, we were in a small floatilla of narrowboats when we met the aquaduct tour boat and at the helm was Aubrey, who became our close friend 6 years ago.
Our meeting was quite comical really......it started with this Welshman, who used to collect the mooring fees at Llangollen, seeing our Cornish flag attached to the tiller and he shouted "Oh no, not more bloody Cornish!"
That was Aubreys first words to me, and mine where "Shut your face, you Welsh git, we have more Welsh people where I live than you have here." We have been firm friends ever since!!
Aubrey has kept in touch will us all through my illness, bless him.
Kev and Summit walked ahead on the long narrow straight into Llangollen armed with a walkie talkie to let me know that the way was clear.
"All clear my ansome" came over the radio.
"One, four Rubber Chicken! On my way"......can't you tell I used to be on CB radio back in the year dot!
Aubrey appeared after he finished work to see us, he was surprised to see how well I looked, I was very thin and pale the last time he saw me. Tomorrow night we would be going out for a meal with this nutty man and his lovely wife Helena. Great
