Side effects of chemo- everyone welcome to comment!

Less than one minute read time.
hi everyone, im just writing to try and find out what kind of symptoms anyone with hodgkins lymphoma has had with their chemo? my mum had her first session of abvd on tuesday. since then she hasnt felt sick or been sick, she felt a bit spaced out on wednesday night and tired, but on thursday felt totally fine. today she has aching glands in her neck and armpits and chest , but they are not swollen. her lymphoma is in her chest so i suspect that maybe her aching glands are just the chemo drugs working on her lymph system? she feels fine otherwise, she is eating small meals and drinking fluids. her temperature is normal. any ideas if this is normal anyone? what are the side effects others have had.? my mum is tired and cant really taste food but thats about all ! thanks much love to all kerri x

    Hi Kerri,

Can't comment on abvd specifically 'cos I have non-hodgkin lymphoma and had r-chop chemotherapy but mine is also in my chest and a few days after each cycle I had aching in my chest and it was just the chemo doing it's stuff.

    Hello Kerrie

My husband has HL .and is also on AVBD no he has'nt had any side effects we looked at the paper work on it and thought oh no .... going through the side effects but no hes been fine .Gets very tierd a few days after chem has little energy to do anything.

Has had some pains in his chaest shoulder but am told this is all to do with his HL plus he has liasons on his lung.

so maybe she is going to be lucky and not suffer many side effects.

    Hi Kerri

Sorry your mum is having to go through chemo.  Like Jozzy, I also had non-hodgkins lymphoma and r-chop, but I expect the treatments are reasonably similar.  Like your mum, I was ok for the first 3 days or so, then I experienced pains in my throat, ears and glands, and I ached all over, a bit like flu without the fever.  My nose also ached like mad (that's where my lymphoma was), probably partly made worse by the fact I'd had it surgically removed (the lymphoma, not my nose!!), but gradually the symptoms would ease after a few days.  I also had stomach pains.  Eating little and often is best, and lots of fluids are important for flushing the system, and plenty of rest as you do feel tired.   Food can taste weird, I really went off things I'd previously liked - a bit like being pregnant!!  All the very best to your mum.  Love Annie x

    Hi Kerrie

I have had one cycle of ABVD so far ,so that is two treatments.

I had a lot of pain in my chest following the first chemo treatment and some pain following the second treatment. The large lymph nodes that were visible in my neck disappeared very quickly and Onco has said that pain is probaly the chemo working on these nodes so not to worry,

I have also experienced some tiredness and also the spaced out feeling but thankfully no sickness

    Love Helen
