Apologies from Kate Jock

2 minute read time.
Hi to those of you who know me and of course to those who DON'T know me. I know people have been trying to get in touch with me and I apologise for being unable to reply to you until now, but this is a quick update: As many of you know, I had 5 sessions of radiotherapy to the side of the neck about 3 weeks ago, but halfway through the treatment, I developed very laboured breathing - most uncomfortable. From the results of a CT scan (done in under an hour, results an' all??!!) they discovered that I had a blood clot on my lung. They started me on a 28 day course of Clexane injections (used to thin the blood), given daily to the tummy area (but apparently it can be given to any fleshy wee part of your anatomy). The district nurses taught the wingless angel Mick how to give these injections to me himself, so that is what is happening on that front. BUT last week, I developed a dreadful cold, which they were panicking was going to turn into a chest infection, so they have me on anit biotics to try and prevent that from happening. Yesterday, we had to stuff ourselves into a cab and go to see my oncologist, Dr Wells. She told me they were now going to give me further radiotherapy, but this time to the chest area (is there no end to it? lol), to try and clear up the breathlessness. She also said there was some cancer mass in the middle of my chest, which obviously wasn't helping with the breathing problems, but she was hopeful that the radiotherapy would be beneficial to me. She next told me that the Clexane injections would not come to an end at 28 days, but would in fact continue indefinitely - oh my poor wee tummy and other fleshy parts. lol I am still laid up in bed with this pesky cough that continues to plague me, but I am hoping to be up and about soon. However, I didn't want any of you worrying that there was something seriously wrong, so I hope this puts your minds to rest - I'll be back on the boards soon. I hope you are all warm and safe and with someone who loves and cares for you, with lots of love kate xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hang in Kate!  Sometimes it seems there is no end to it.  I keep telling people we will be all done in April with some of our own personal things we will be doing afterwards, so by end of summer Dave should be feeling great.  However, always with the caveat that there are no "complications".  Ha!  We can plan and plan, but we have to allow for things to go slightly awry and build in a cushion of time to "go with the flow" or "ride the wave".  I'm glad that you seem to be doing just that, and keep your eye on the goal.

We were white water rafting once, 10 miles down a river.  We were a terrible team as I was the only one with any experience and the other 3 were all newbees.  All three ended up in the water at some point on our way down.  Anyway at the end we shot past the last rapid and past the exit point!  There was a bus waiting for us.  One of the guys in the boat said, "Come on you guys!  THE BUS! THE BUS! THE BUS!"  cuz we had to paddle up current to get back to the spot.  So we were all paddling in unison to his emphatic chanting and made it back upstream. I have never forgotten how funny and comical it all was and when I feel overwhelmed sometimes about stuff I think, "THE BUS! THE BUS! THE BUS!"

    Best,

    Lori

Oh Kate my little love, I'm so glad you are doing ok - mind you what a week!

The injections sound a bit nasty - perhaps you will develop a resistance to the "sharp scratch" after a while - I expect you have a lot less fleshy bits than people like me so I feel for you !

Keep us posted, love to Mick too xxxx

I somehow thought you were OK, and I'm glad that Mick is doing the injections.  At least he will wash his hands!

I knew it was going to be hard work, and I'm glad you have been able to post.  All the best

    love
