Apologies from Kate Jock

2 minute read time.
Hi to those of you who know me and of course to those who DON'T know me. I know people have been trying to get in touch with me and I apologise for being unable to reply to you until now, but this is a quick update: As many of you know, I had 5 sessions of radiotherapy to the side of the neck about 3 weeks ago, but halfway through the treatment, I developed very laboured breathing - most uncomfortable. From the results of a CT scan (done in under an hour, results an' all??!!) they discovered that I had a blood clot on my lung. They started me on a 28 day course of Clexane injections (used to thin the blood), given daily to the tummy area (but apparently it can be given to any fleshy wee part of your anatomy). The district nurses taught the wingless angel Mick how to give these injections to me himself, so that is what is happening on that front. BUT last week, I developed a dreadful cold, which they were panicking was going to turn into a chest infection, so they have me on anit biotics to try and prevent that from happening. Yesterday, we had to stuff ourselves into a cab and go to see my oncologist, Dr Wells. She told me they were now going to give me further radiotherapy, but this time to the chest area (is there no end to it? lol), to try and clear up the breathlessness. She also said there was some cancer mass in the middle of my chest, which obviously wasn't helping with the breathing problems, but she was hopeful that the radiotherapy would be beneficial to me. She next told me that the Clexane injections would not come to an end at 28 days, but would in fact continue indefinitely - oh my poor wee tummy and other fleshy parts. lol I am still laid up in bed with this pesky cough that continues to plague me, but I am hoping to be up and about soon. However, I didn't want any of you worrying that there was something seriously wrong, so I hope this puts your minds to rest - I'll be back on the boards soon. I hope you are all warm and safe and with someone who loves and cares for you, with lots of love kate xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • Hi Kate,

You poor bunny - what a catalogue of nasties you've had recently. I trust you are tucked up with a wee dram, your lap-top, cuddly toy, and a big box of chocs. Keep on keeping on.

    Best wishes,

    The other Kate - KateG

I thought you had been quiet recently and now I understand - what a horrible time you've been having.  I'm sure Mick must be looking after you really well, and hope that the radiotherapy and injections clear things up as soon as possible.

    With much love

  • Do you think we ought to set up our own exclusive group? "The Kates" Come to think of it, wasn't there a comic featuring three school-girls called Kate or Susan... no, it's come back to me now - it was the Three Marys. I seem to recall they went to a posh boarding school and got up to all sorts of japes. (Midnight feasts in the dorm!)

    Hello you,

I'm glad that you've given us an update as I was beginning to get a bit worried.  Sorry to hear you're being used as a little pin cushion (!!!) and suffering a bit, and I hope the wingless angel can feel the warm, strong vibes we're all sending over to you both.

Take care of yourself and don't push yourself....building your strength back up takes some careful convalescing!

    Big hug to you xxxx

I was begining to worry what you were up to Kate!  Glad to know that you are battling on with all the nasty bugs doing the rounds. Do you leak when you drink now from all those holes??? Keep safe, keep warm and listen to your body.  Gentle hug heading your way.

    Take care
