1st Visit to Oncologist

Less than one minute read time.

I have recently been diagnosed, after an operation for an ovarian cyst, which proved to be benign. This was removed complete with lymph nodes, ovaries and omentum (the apron of the stomach).

I am due to start chemo in 3 weeks and am asured that I will not lose my hair as my  cancer is a 1C.  I have been told that I should have a list of questions for the oncologist but for the life  of me can't think of one question to ask - my mind is blank.  Has anybody got any advice as to what questions I should be asking??

    HI Karen

My mum has just been diagnosed with Cancer and we were told the same about asking questions, if you look on Cancer Research UK they have a section on the type of cancer you have and then a section of "what to ask" which is a list of questions appropriate to your type of cancer, it was really good for us on Tuesday I took a note pad and pen, the doctors expect it so dont feel shy about asking the questions.

Its worth having a look at the cancer research website its really helpfull.

    Good Luck Allison x

    Hi,

Sorry to sound stupid, why the chemo if the cyst was benign?

Ask about the side effects and what the drugs are you will get and then research them if you wish(Macmillan gives a comprehensive list of chemo drugs). Ask if you will need a cold cap to ensure no hairloss.

Side effects are the biggie, ask about any dietary restrictions, if you must stay indoors at certain times during the cycle, how long the cycle will last. How will it be administered? Will they give you a permanent line or will it be canulas?

Sorry if this is a bit much but they are all just things to consider. Allison has given good advice to have a look at cancer research UK.

Good luck, I hope it all goes well.lx

    Hi Karen,

If you are going to ask questions. Take a small tape Recorder and tape the answers.  All the best and look after yourself.

Take care ands be safe Big Hugs Love Sarsfield.xx
