Friday 9th February 9 days post 3rd EC

1 minute read time.

Happy Friday everyone. Another good night's sleep without the aid of any medication, I could get used to this. I did have a bit of a dodgy stomach late last night but it didn't disturb my sleep.

It's getting so predictive on how I am going to feel each week,  there have been a few little changes but not anything drastic. I am expecting to be more tired again next weekend, but for now my energy levels have righted them selves. I made an effort with putting on some make-up, I nearly wore a wig out, but took it off and just wore a hat to keep my head warm.

Had a nice couple of hours out today in Tiverton. We walked up around the market and there was a lady offering samples of gin & vodka I said I hadn't had a drink this year because having chemo treatment so she offered hubby some but he was driving, I then noticed there was a watermelon vodka, I asked to taste a tiny bit, oh my it was so good that we came away with a bottle. We will save it for the end of treatment, it will be a nice summer drink I am sure. We then did some food shopping. Treated us to some M&S Chinese to have tomorrow, I'm making sure that while I can taste that we have lots of different foods. I batch cooked a curry today, I think it had a little too much harissa in it as it gave me hiccups, will make sure I have some antacid gloop before bed this evening.

I picked up a big Elma cream from the surgery this afternoon, so I will be all set for my next EC next week and the injections that will follow. I had enough in small tube for tonight's injection. If I have to carry on with injections when I move to Paclitaxel, I'll make sure to get this re prescribed, why have pain if you can get this on prescription.

  • Hi, just read all your blogs. I start EC x 3 cycles next Thursday !!! I'm 60 with TNBC, I jokingly tell people I've got the young woman's breast cancer.

Did you consider cold capping, I'm going for a wig fitting on Wednesday, but still trying to get to grips with how effective cold capping is ????

Wonder why I get cyclophosphamide for the 2nd round X3 and you get paxicletel ????

You sound like your doing great. Hope I'm as brave.

Been sewing myself some PICC line covers this evening !!! probably the most depressing bit of needlework I've ever done !!!

  • Hi Vibby

I have just read all your blogs too. I love your sense of humor. Like you I worked for 19 yrs for the NHS and being treated at the hospital I worked at too. I worked in the medical imaging as a porter. Took early retirement then, got TNBC.

I didn't consider cold capping at all as I have Reynaulds and get chilblains too, so being winter I wasn't going to sit around with an icebucket on my head. I was offered it but turned it down. Then the chemo nurse said its not that successful. I think it adds a couple of extra hours to the chemo too.

I had already found an app that removed my hair from a photo and thought, I can cope with that. I have bought 6 wigs from Shien, but still not worn one yet. It's so much easier in the shower when you haven't got to wash your hair, especially as the limbo on your arm, is like having a robot arm from lost in space.

I'm not sure why we are having different chemo for our second round, It could be that just different hospitals prefer different chemo. Mine are 4X EC the 4X Pax fortnightly. Are yours 3 weekly?

I still don't know how I have stayed so positive, but I have. After the 15th I will be half way through, unless my bloods aren't right on Monday.

I didn't bother with picc covers in the end, I just bought some tubi grip as I won't be wearing short sleeve things for a while.

Be prepared for the loss of taste, that's what's effected me the most, but it's only about 4-5 days each session.

I still have eyebrows and lashes at the moment, plus few hairs on legs and pubes, I didn't shave them as wanted to see how long it all stayed for Joy

You will get through this, you sound like you have the same sort of mindset as me. I rarely wear make-up but wear more since diagnosis.

Hope your chemo goes smoothly too. Sending hugs.

    Alison
