I had rectal cancer and had my anus and rectum removed. I also had chemo and radiotherapy. I was classified stage 1 and so I have got a clean bill of health as much as the profession will say - after my CT scan I got a letter to say that "there was no convincing evidence that the cancer had returned." Satge 3 is not the worst and I am sure they will do their best to contain it in the lymph nodes. I found radiotherapy a bind - every day for five weeks with an hour's travel each day but got through it OK. The only thing is use plenty of the cream that they give you - in the last week I discovered radiation burns and it was absolute agony. Being a roughy toughy male I told them I was using the cream when they asked me but I wasn't and it was very unpleasant.

    Good luck
