Radiotherapy Side Effects

Less than one minute read time.
I woke up this morning with a nasty headache and haven't been able to do what I wanted to do. Needless to say this has made me miserable and has made me eat more food. Bad JD - no biscuit! Or rather, no more biscuits...We don't buy biscuits or chocolates anymore as i'll just scoff them as I have no willpower. I have put on (what I feel) is a vast amount of weight but the nurse said to me yesterday that it will fall off as I cut down on the steroids. I have permission to do this now and increase the anti-epeleptic drugs to stop the weird left hand side mini-seizures I seem to be suffering from when I stand up. Very odd. Still have the headache but I think that a paracetamol or two and a cup of tea might help the issue. Speak later.

    Hi there,

You take care and keep smiling and hey if you have the odd biscuit or two whatever, the weight will fall off soon - be careful with the headaches and make sure you have the paracetamol.

My Mum is about to start radiotherapy - how are you doing with it?  What do you take the steroids for?  My Mum has lost so much weight an isn't eating very well, do the steroids help with that?

I'm new to all of this and a nervous wreck too.  I can certainly see why they call it the big C.

Love and best wishes to you and take care, get well soon. Sandra xx

    Hi there,

I hope your mother does well with the radiotherapy.  I take steroids for the swelling in my brain (I have a benign brain tumour that started to grow and change at the end of last year).  I suffered from migranes which were caused by the mass effect of the tumour i.e. the extra space the tumour takes up.  For me, the steroids cause an increase in appetite and some people find it difficult to sleep.  There is a long list of possible side effects which you should look into.  In general though, the steroids have been brilliant for me as they have controlled my symptoms so that I can lead a 'normal-ish' life.
