What to do ...

1 minute read time.

Decided to contact my union rep to attend the next meeting with my manager and occupational health to try and make sure that things are sorted this time.  While on the phone to the rep he checked with the branch secretary and then told me that I need to get the signing off note from my doctor (have appt for 9am on Monday) and then work would have to let me back or put me on paid leave until they sort things at their end, also said I shouldn't have been told to get another note and he would come to both meetings.  Was quite relieved to hear this but then another contact from my manager saying the information is wrong and I can't come back until she has had more meetings with me and got a revised report from Occupational Health.  This message came in outside working hours so not able to contact the rep again for advice, not in before I see doctor.  Keep changing my mind on what to do for best, would be great if I can sign off and get sorted straight away but if I sign off and this doesn't happen benefits and mortgage insurance will stop and I won't have anything coming in.  At the moment I am thinking of signing off anyway and see what happens.  Either way manager is unimpressed that I've even involved my rep so going to be a bit awkward when I get back ... if I could afford to give up work completely at this point I would because It's driving me mad!

On a good note grandma has done really well in hospital, she still has chest drain and 2 litres have come out but there has been no more in last 12 hours so hopefully won't need it much longer.  There will be a meeting on Tuesday when they expect all test results to be in to sort out what happens next so not much longer to wait now.

Consultant happy with my progress, will need to ring next week to arrange ct scan to check if remission is holding ... fingers (and everything else) crossed!

  • Jozzy, I would speak with the union again before doing anything, also is there a personnel dept you can contact to see if what your manager is saying is correct.

And I would do this before seeing the doc.

Can I ask is it a local authorirty/public sector  or private sector work place without giving it away.

If I can find anything else out will let you know.

what a bum*er you can do without this.

Many thanks for your replies.  I work for local authority and my union is unison. Will try and contact union again before appointment with doc as I am still no closer to making a decision.  Thanks again :-)

Managed to get hold of my rep this morning ... 5 minutes before I went into appointment with my doctor.  He was not at all happy with what I had been told by manager and advised again for me to get a signing off note and said he would speak to my manager.  So have now got a signing off note and have forwarded copy to my manager and rep (original needs to be sent to job centre) and am waiting to see what happens.
