Stressing out ....

1 minute read time.

Well on Friday I got several e-mails from work and from my rep, managers don't think I should have a rep in with me but rep is taking this up with them and I'm just waiting to hear what happens.  Why does going back to work have to be so complicated?

After worrying all weekend I've still not heard what they want me to work this week, am assuming they don't want me in today but now feel that I have to waste the day waiting in just in case the contact me.  Not sure how long I can cope with finding out working arrangements week to week, can plan anything.

Still having a bit of discomfort on left side and bowel habits have changed to more frequent, also tireder than usual and lost 6lb in a week.  Think it's probably due to stressing out ... I am a natural born worrier though ... scared that lymphoma is back but in another place ... can it come back in stomach/bowel if it was in mediastinum before?  Have got a scan appointment coming up though on 9th December so not too long before I can get it checked out again I suppose.

Also had cause to check my contract on Friday because of the issues and found that it stated my continuous service date subject to verification as 1 July 2000.  As this would mean that I was entitled to more sick pay and leave entitlement I contacted payroll to have it re-checked (I was in no pay for 3 months and thought I might get some extra pay) but they just said it was an admin error and have now sent me another contract with a continuous service date subject to verification as 6 June 2005 (the day I started with Barnsley).

Wish I didn't need to work ... am really fed up with it already!

  • Don't let them bully you! It sounds as if your employers are taking advantage of your inability to fight your corner at the moment. If you belong to a trade union (I presume that's what you mean by a reference to a rep?) then PLEASE use their help.

Good luck and don't let the b*ggers grind you down!

  • Hi Jozzy

if you moved from one local authority to another without a break then that should be classed as continuous service and if you only changed roles in Barnsley then it should still be continuous service.

If you are really not happy with the approach of your manager consider submitting a grievance, can it get any worse? only you will know.

They should have a proper phased return to work plan in place, if its not working again you may want to ask for it to be reviewed, this is normally part of the process. Now you are back you should be on full pay so if they drag their feet  other than it being flustrating you should not loose out financially.

Any meeting with management you have the right to take a rep or colleague to observe.

Sounds like its your immediate manager that is causing the problems from this and earlier posts.

Have a good chat with the union and see what they say.

Its a bummer to have to go through this after dealing with cancer, it may be worth keeping a record of everything including paper copies of emails as you are being stressed unduly by the system and your manager.

    good luck

Thankyou so much for all your replies and good luck wishes.  I will definately start keeping copies/notes of everything and keep talking to rep (unison).

Have been told to wait for confirmation but that they may want me in on Friday when they are busy with a new contract and they will do next meeting on same day so hopefully will get some sort of return plan then.  Fingers crossed.
