Progress .....

2 minute read time.

Have done a month of my phased return to work now, haven't got a formal plan and working patterns have been a bit ad-hoc.  As far as the actual work goes I have enjoyed getting back into it and seeing all my colleagues again and have been able to complete tasks that I have been set - was really surprised at some of the things that came flooding back to me once I got going - maybe my chemo brain isn't as bad as I thought it was after all :-)

Seem to be OK when I just do the morning but really struggling when I have to stay longer.  Have applied for job-share and asked to do every morning but no answer yet on whether this will be approved.  I have 36 days holiday that have built up while I've been off sick and hoping that a decision is made before these run out as know I will not be able to manage full time.  It has been difficult just finding out a week at a time what I need to work, this week I even had to ring into work on Monday to find out when they wanted me in and it took until 4.15pm to get a reply to come in the following day.

On Friday we had a meeting so I had to stay until 3pm instead of 1.30pm that I had been doing and have been told to work until 3pm Monday and Tuesday next week as I have hospital appointment on Wednesday and holiday on Thursday and manager needs me to increase hours.  Think I'm going to have to ring her tomorrow though because I was so tired after the meeting on Friday that I almost had an accident on the way home and 'flopped' as soon as I got in.  Bit worried about what will happen if I say I can't do it though but think 2pm will be my limit for being able to get home safely at the moment.  They have moved my base to a smaller centre but this means I have half an hour each way extra travel to get to and from work.

I need to be up to 18.5 hours by 12th January and did 14.5 last week so not far to go, just need it to be mornings rather than longer days.  Am keeping fingers crossed that they can sort this - can't afford to be out of a job altogether.

Have been struggling with breathing for last couple of weeks and relying more heavily on my inhalers, especially in the evening and at night.  Wish Wednesday would hurry up and come so that I can get my scan results, probably nothing or side effect from radio but because I started off with breathing problems my mind is doing flip flops at the moment.

Oh well, have warbled on for long enough now so gonna sit and watch the snow for a bit .....

    Hi jozzy

Can't believe you've been back a month already! Is it normally as ad hoc? Hope you get sorted - the job share sounds ideal.

Hope the scan results bring you good news and turn your flip flops into a fine pair of stout boots! Will have fingers crossed for you anyway:)

  • Hi Jozzy

pleased you are managing with work, but suprised you have not got a plan unless they are giving you some flexibility.

I hope to go back 4th Jan and like you need to use 39 days leave so its 3 weeks work 2 weeks holiday.

Hope you get sorted with job share, enjoy christmas and start 2010 afresh.
