Had a fabulous holiday

2 minute read time.
Crikey loads has happened since my last blog. Got shingles 3 days before I went on holiday ... good start eh ... but luckily only a few on my back, got in at docs quick and he gave me some anti viral pills. Then on the day I went away went to have my mask fitted for the radiotherapy, was much better than I had expected, it was a sheet of plastic mesh stuff that was all warm and floppy, they pulled it over my face, clipped it down and smoothed it into shape. No problems breathing while it was on and kept my eyes closed (nice black lines on mask where my eyes were cos forgot I'd put mascara on...lol!), once they were happy with it they just put cold wet tissues on to set it and then they took it off ... done in less than 5 minutes! Set off for Newquay at midnight and got there around 7.30, was really stiff when got out of the car, first job was to find a cafe and have a nice cooked breakfast, soon loosened up. By Tuesday of the first week I had finished the tablets and the shingles were healing nicely. Was lovely to see everyone again, we stay at same guesthouse each year and same people are there ... its like getting together with old friends ... good times :-). Spent loads of time on the beach, one day was in the sea for 2 hours, enjoyed it so much that I lost all track of time ... good job I had wetsuit so no sunburn. Also went to one of the beach sessions on Fistral and went to see The Blackout, got the tickets more for my two boys as one of their favourite bands but really enjoyed it. Now on countdown to next years holiday ... only 50 weeks to go lol! Back to Jimmys today for the first session of radiotherapy, staff were really nice and helped me to relax, again not as bad as I thought it would be and got to listen to some of the soundtrack from dirty dancing while I was being 'done' ... not listened to that for ages. Got to have a look at the xray with an outline of the treatment field on it and was relieved that it misses my thyroid and stomach, knew my lungs and heart would be involved because of position of tumor but didn't know how big an area was still involved. When I came out the mask had made small circular imprints down the side of my nose ... was completely unaware of this until my hubby started laughing and told me I looked like a ferengi ... he was right lol! Hair is still growing back a lovely (not!) shade of grey, still very short and was straight but now feels a little bumpy at the sides so think I may have curls coming. Must admit though it was so much easier on holiday with extra short hair ... washed and dried in no time!

Hi Jozzy, glad you had a good time away.  Hope the radiotherapy goes well for you.  I know what you mean about the hair coming in grey, I got that dyed A.S.A.P.! lol.  And yes, I too found it a lot easier on holiday to keep tidy.  My hair has grown down my back now, and as much as I like having long hair, it can be a pain to dry.  Still we can't have it all eh lol.  Best wishes for the rest of your treatment, Christine xx
