Consultant Appointment

1 minute read time.
Saw my consultant again on Friday, turns out my neutrophil count is low again, was 0.8 and needs to be 1.0 or over before I have my next lot of chemo. Am going in tomorrow morning for another blood test and am hoping that they have picked up enough over the weekend, if not I am to have 1 injection of lenograstim to try and bring them back up for Tuesday when the chemo is due. Finally decided to ask about the size of the 'large mass' in my chest, had avoided asking before as wasn't sure if I could deal with the answer. Anyway it started out as 12.6cm x 11.4cm and at half way scan had gone down to 9.3cm x 7.4cm, was a bit shocked at size of it, no wonder I had found it hard to breathe! Left hospital quite happy but now keep on dwelling about the size of what's still in there as thought that the majority of lymphoma was normally zapped by the first few cycles. Still glad I asked as now know what I'm dealing with and consultant still seemed happy with progress so keep reminding myself of that, am glad I waited though because think I would have been a wreck if I'd known size of it to begin with. Feel shattered today, stomach ache and toilet troubles all day, seems to wipe me out completely and getting this every 3-4 days now, hot flashes also seem worse at this time, hope these things do go back to normal once chemo finishes.

I just wanted to say that when my Dad had NHL he had absolutely no change in the size of his tumour at the halfway point - however by the end of 8 chemo sessions it had totally disappeared so dont loose heart - chemo doesnt leave the body for 6 weeks ish after treatment either so you may find it is still working even after the course is over. Hang on in there and we are all willing your neutraphil count perks up for Tuesday !! Best wishes, Jools xx
