Terminal diagnosis - OK I'm off to Florida then!!!

1 minute read time.
So I am not happy about my cancer returning at all but I wasnt ready to go straight onto the 'treatment rollercoaster' so I underwent a teeny bit of radiotherapy to my sternum (4 days) which finished on the Wednesday, on the Thursday I travelled to London and on Friday went to Florida. Had never been before and soooo wanted to go (had been saving for a while but funds not enough) so my Brother and his wife helped us out and before we knew where we were we were there. Fantastic! The kids couldnt believe they got off school but in the circumstances I was allowed to take them, My girls are 13 1nd 14 so went into rollercoaster/scary ride heaven. I got to do the Jaws ride at Universal which I had always wanted to do (how sad is that!???!). We had a fab time and have lots and lots of memories and most importantly my girlies have tons of happy photos. You really get stung by the insurance companies though - apart from phoning about 17 different premium rate tel numbers then they ring back and say - no chance or else quote a price that would get you a lovely conservatory or something - my Brother to the rescue again - thanks best bro. Anyway now that I have those memories and I got to have my dream holiday I can sit with my chemo drip and plan the next trip (ha). My Macmillan nurse confessed that she thought I was mad but could see how much it had benefitted me and the girls to go. When my Daughters come home I think I will ask them to help me to post some photos 'cos I dont know where to start. I think my mantra for dealing with secondary breast cancer is going to be 'on MY terms'. Anyone else done anything before treatment?

Just had oncology day unit on the phone to talk to me about scalp cooling - my oncol doc says I can try. Nurse was encouraging but because taxol dripped in over three hours and then gen for another half can expect to be chilly up top for about 4 hours - suppose it might counteract my 'tropical moments' (hot flushes). Hmmm not sure what I think but the kids are so desperate for me to not to lose my hair (did I look that bad last time??) that I am willing to give it a go. I wont have to use it on day 8 when the gen is repeated so it should only be once every three weeks. It must be worth a try. has anyone else been offered? I dont think they had a scalp cooler last time (5 years ago). Well have to go to prepare for invasion of the teenagers tonight - having big sleepover event before treatment starts - of course if dont lose hair may be able to have more. Who knows. Bye for now. P.S. cant chat tonight 'cos they will pinch laptop love Jools x

You go for it jools. If you think its worth a go, why not. My hair was too thin and such a crappy colour I think they thought "poor sod, she'd look far better bald". And you know what, they were right in my case. Mind you, I would also have enjoyed the cooling effect, but you can bet your boots you wont get a flush till you are all finished and about to leave.

Thanks for making me laugh so much last night, thought my stitches would burst.

Hope we talk again soon. Have a good Eurovision.

    Lots of love and Hugs

    Debbie and April xxxx
