CML

Less than one minute read time.

HELLO I AM NEW TO THIS. MY MOM HAS CML AND WAS DX IN 2006. SHE HAS BEEN ON 3 DIFFERENT ORAL CHEMO'S AND WE WERE TOLD THIS WEEK THAT SHE HAS STOPPED RESPONDING TO THIS ONE AND THAT HER LEUKEMIA IS PROGRESSING. THE RESEARCH NURSE IS SEARCHING FOR A CLINICAL TRIAL FOR HER NOW. ANYONE WITH SIMILAR EXPERIENCES OR CAN SHARE SOME EXPERIENCE STRENGTH AND HOPE

    Hi Jonjon

Do you know what treatments your mother has tried. The normal route is Imatinib (Glivec) then Dasatinib (Sprycel) and then possibly Nilotinib (Tasagnia). These are all known as TKI's and all work in a similar way.

There is a new treatment which is going into clinical trial called Omacetaxine which works in a completely different way to the other three treatments. In Australia (where it was developed) and in US where it has already been in trial the results are promising.

Finally depending on the age of your mother there is also the possibility of stem cell transplant which is the only treatment which offers the possibility of cure.

I was dx in May 2007 and tried both Imatinib and Dasatinib, neither worked so I had a transplant in May 2009 and so far am responding well.

There are lots of options for CML and new treatments being developed so stay cheerful I'm sure the doctors will find the correct one for your mother.

    Take Care

    Helen
