second opinion

Less than one minute read time.
After several years of scans gastroscopy and other tests I have been told that I have Cancer of the Gullet. Since being told I have undergone a CT Scan for which I am still waiting results. Went in for Ultrasonic gastroscopy last week and the ultrasonic part failed whilst down my throat. The consultant has told me that at our next meeting (7 days time) he will recommend that I undergo surgery, how much surgery will depend on results of ct scan. Should I have more tests before surgery? John

    Hi John,

So sorry that you find yourself here.  I too have this cancer and I' m only 39.

Regular CT scans can show them if the cancer is operable. Mine is in the surrounding glands so surgery is not an option at the moment but it could be if the glands clear with the chemo.  The CT scans can show all the cancerous areas and they will offer you surgery if they can cure you.  It is discussed at an MDT meeting with lots of other people to get the best opinion on treatment.

Other tests before surgery include heart tests etc to make sure your fit enough for the surgery and anaesthetic.

I wish you all the best for your treatment, I see your already friends with Kittylittle, she has been a great source of information and support for me too.

I shall watch your story if thats okay.  Keep in touch.

    All the best.

    Joanne
