Mums having Surgery

1 minute read time.
Just got back from hospital with mum, she has decided she will go for the operation after all. We had quite a long talk with the Surgeon and she has explained everything to my mum, the risks of surgery and the complications which may arise after surgery and of course the consequencies if she decides not to have it, so mum has decided she will take her chances with surgery , although we felt once again the surgeon was trying to talk mum out of it, she goes into hospital on Wed 26th Nov, 08 and has surgery on Friday 28th Nov, 08. Mum got weighed again today and she has lost another 6lbs in just two weeks so the surgeon sent the dietician into us, she has put mum on a special diet to hopefully gain some weight over the next two weeks and has also given her some protien drinks, we also managed at last to get some pain relief sorted for her. In the next two weeks we are going to spoil mum rotten, we are even going to bring Xmas forward for her, we are going to decorate our trees and on Saturday 22nd Nov we will all gather at my sisters home for an early Xmas dinner and try to make it special for mum, we are not giving up we are just making memories. Thank you everyone for all your support and love. Joan and her mum. xxx

    Hello Joanny,

I just want you to know that I will be thinking of you throughout the next couple of weeks.  I am in such a similar position in some respects although my mum wasn't offered surgery as an option.  She is however fading fast and is currently in hospital having a blood transfusion.  I went in to see her this morning and she seems to me to be fading fast.

You have a wonderful Christmas on 22nd November and pull a cracker for me!!!

My thoughts are with you and your dear mum and all the family at this time,

    Love, Hannah xxxx

I am so glad your mother has been able to make her own decision.  What a good idea to celebrate Christmas early.  Whatever happens, you will have that memory to sustain you and her before the operation.  I hope the weight gain works as hoped.  Even if she only gains half the weight hoped for, it will be better than nothing.and she will be a bit stronger than she is at the moment.

She knows that she has your love, and that means a lot to her.

    love

    Rwth

Fabulous news Joany, and brilliant to have an early Christmas holiday for her!  Well done!  At times like these, being creative and damn all the arbitraries is exactly what is called for!   Best, Lori

Hi to Joan and your Mum - I'm glad your Mum has made the decision that she is obviously happy with, and that she is fully aware of everything that the surgery entails. Wonder why the surgeon would give the impression that he/she was trying to talk your Mum out of the surgery? Did the surgeon not explain everything fully to you? It sounds as though you are quite happy with your Mum's decision, so I guess that is the main thing, eh? It's good that they have a dietician on board for your Mum, as they will be the best ones to advise on diet regime. Also good news that some pain relief has been obtained for your Mum, as I really don't understand why anyone should be in pain without treatment in this day and age. Go for spoiling your Mum "rotten", as I think ALL of us could do with a bit of that now and again, sufferers and those who love and care for us alike. The Christmas spirit thing is marvellous and will no doubt "lift" your Mum up a wee bit, eh? Keep making memories - they all count! Please tell your Mum I said hello and tell her I wish her all the very best on her upcoming surgery, which I'm sure will be a resounding success, with love to all of you from     kate xxxxxxx
