New Blog Member looking for advice

1 minute read time.

sorry, new to all this blogging but just need to write it down i think. Dad had his oesphagus removed last aug and has done so well. did everything they told him to do , considering he has never trusted doctors before, this was very good for him, he has a couple of hernias at the same site and was going in for surgery but complained to his consultant that he was having some problems eating again so they sent him for camera down, they found more cancer at the join site and sent him for a ct scan, got results yesterday and he also has a shadow on his lungs and spine. going for pet scan today and will get the results on 1st nov, I feel so angry , this is so unfair, I would take this all away from him in a second, the whole family is totally in shock, we were not expecting this at all. they have said they wont know the extent untill they get the results of pet scan and they said there is no cure but they can try and shrink it, I am clutching at straws here to see has anybody had a similar experience and is surviving by having chemo to keep it at bay, I may be being selfish but he has his gloves on and is ready to kick this evilness into touch.

    Hi teresa,

it must be like a rollercoaster for you and your family, It has not been that long yet he also has the added problem of emphysema, Poor Dad, its hard trying to keep the emotions at bay in front of them isnt it, Yes to be honest, since diagnosis last May we have become much closer, as a family than before, we have always been very close anyway but it frightened the life out of us and we realised that we take too much for granted, so we all now try and spend  as much time together as possible and plan things so we all have stuff to look forward to together, we are very very lucky in that sense as mum and dad have been very family oriented and love it when we all get together, thought we had all the nastiness out of the way and dad could start getting abck to work cos that is really upsetting him not working, but now dont know whats going to happen just yet, we will find out in due course, you will have to keep in touch and let me know how your dad is doing, its so sad how many members are in this group, dont you feel that this type of thing happens to other people and not your family, we just get on with our lives and dont bother anyone, but we are ready to fight it anyway, whatever it takes.

Take care and pass my thoughts on to your dad

    love jo xx

    Hiya John,

, we are all new to this so dont know a lot of details but we are learning more each day unfortunately,

Sorry about your illness but its great that it is being kept at bay with hormone injections. i only know of the side effects of chemo from dad last year and would have taken it all from him if i could, he just had no energy and felt sick all the time, he is no good at sitting still and is very independant so it was hard for him whereas i on the other hand am quite happy sitting off just reading so i would have coped mentally better than him although he never complained at all.,

Is there any side effects from the hormone injections and are you well enough to go about your daily business.  I agree now that we do take things and people for granted, i responded to teresa saying just that and so we have tried to make extra time for spending time as a family since last year and we are definatly all very positive, Its the only way to be and to be honest i cannot even think of any other outcome. John you are so inspiring to everyone and you have certainly given me a lot to think about, thank you so much for taking time to respond to me, will be thinking about you and keep your spirits up, you are doing sooooo well

    lots of hugs

    Jo xxx
