Not having tax or insurance can invoke serious penalties. It is usually a fine, but a pretty big one.
If she has fallen behind with the hire charges, and goes on not paying, yes her car will be taken away. But it won't be taken away and she will not have points on her licence for not being taxed/insured. unless the fines prevent her from paying the hire charges.
The first is what the government insists on, and the second is a contract between her and the car's owner. If she was paying for her insurance by DD, as long as she paid the first few, she will just owe the insurance company money, but I think she will still be insured. It's a risky thing to do, so if it is the insurance she needs to put it right with them ASAP. Likewise the Lease/ Hire company.
If it was the tax that she pays by DD, as I said before, it will cost her a hefty fine, but not points, and not loss of car unless she owed money on it.
