  • Hi Janelou,

It takes a while to find your way about this site - it took me ages. If you want to find out about another member (including me!) simply click on their picture and it will take you to their Profile Page. You can then also access their Blogs to also learn more about them. I dealt with some of the thrush problems in my blog "Nettles in my Knickers". I looked at your Profile Page but notice you haven't mentioned if you had surgery? If you feel shy about discussing intimate matters you can also ask questions by sending a Personal Message (known as a PM for short). Any help I can offer please ask.

    Hi Janelou,

I hear you.  I'm like a bear with a sore head a lot of the time - very short temper and it's not really me.  I had surgery end of December 07, chemo this time last year and radiotherapy during the summer then the tamoxifen.  I've also asked the oncology team who say there shouldn't be any side effects really.  My mum had DCIS in 1990 and took tamoxifen for five years with no side effects that she can remember.

I also have a thirst thing going on and drink water through out the day - my mouth can get very dry all of a sudden - chewing gum helps though.  The dentist said it was unlikely to be the tamoxifen and more likely the chemo and that my saliva glands would / should come back to normal in a couple of  years.

Then again... you know the old greetings card:  "my recurring nightmare is that I'll wake up some morning and discover it's not PMT, but my real personality"... for PMT substitute Tamoxifen in my case!

<p>Hi all. I was diagnosed with BC in 2009 and underwent a lumpectomy with radiotherapy straight after. Tamoxifen was prescribed for the first 5 years, then Letrozole and followed by Exemestane for a short period of time. I&#39;m back on Tamoxifen for the next 3 years due to aches, joint pains and mood swings experienced from taking Letrozole and Exemestane. The prominent side effect of Tamoxifen for me at the outset was vaginal thrush (VT) where my GP prescribed antibiotics. Unfortunately, as soon as I finished the course of antibiotics, the VT returned. With everything that I&#39;ve put my body through since my diagnosis, I seriously did not wish to overload my body with further medication if I can help it. I had a good heart to heart with my Breast Surgeon and my Oncologist requesting an alternative to overcome this side effect. Both suggested cranberry juice and it worked! I have to this day taken cranberry juice religiously and have not had any recurrence. I&#39;m all for finding alternative ways to overcome any side effects without having to take another drug. I do not wish to add to my prescription list by taking one drug to stave off the side effects of another. Hope this helps. DST
