Nasal gastric tube

Less than one minute read time.

Hi guys

At my meeting before my RT is due to start which is Monday they said that they use a gastric nasal tube as a last resort repeating that ..Now i am scared of that and wonder if anyone has managed without it or if you had it was it bad getting it fitted and using it ....something else for me to worry about now .

Love Jan x

I had an NG tube fitted for a different reason and it wasn't as bad as I expected.

I am a retired nurse and have fitted many myself over the years and used to think that I would hate to have it done but like I said it wasn't too bad. Infact removing it was more unpleasant than it going in!

Good Luck with your RT I hope it all go's smoothly for you.

All the best love Julie xx

I managed without a gastric tube, but like Jujuc had one fitted years ago for a differant reason and as she says it's not so bad remember they tend to tell you about the worst things that can happen its not a nice thing to go through  but you will be surprized at what you can go through and come out the other end my radiotherapy finished last week and I was dreading it but it is over now and I can begin to look forward once again

Hello Jan. Think I may have mentioned when I had a nasogastric tube on a PM to you - but it wasn't as bad as I thought it might be. It was necessary as I did have a bad reaction to the radiation and I just couldn't manage enough nutrition otherwise. To be honest, it was a blessing for me at the time, so don't think having one as a bad thing. It's an easy way to get the medicine down ! Love, Joycee xx

    Hi Jan,

A piece of doddle I had one in for 6 mths,no probnlem going in and I must disagree with Julie no problem coming out. Sorry Julie, people are different.

In fact Jan my nasal/gasric tube is hanging on the wall beside my computer. It makes a good talking point..

Take care and be safe Big Hugs Love Sarsfield.xx
