Post operation 3 months on

2 minute read time.

Hii All,

I think there are lots of us in similar positions as myself, when reading posts in forums. Seems routine checks turned into something that needed delving into, to be told we have Cancer, I give Cancer a capital C because it is a reminder that it is that dreaded C word!

I started my journey with my COPD, getting regular checks, but when I got 6 chest infections in 6 months, they decided to give me to give me the Scans, GGC was found at first, but then 3 months later on my next scan they found the mass, biopsies were tried and failed because of where it was in my left lower lobe, so I went under the knife not knowing if my cancer was malignant or not. It turns out it was, so the decision had been the right one, as they also found a smaller mass in the lobe they removed. I did not have to have chemo as it had not spread into lobes. So I had the operation and was sent on my merry way 5 days later.

The pain was tremendous, every time I tried to walk or go the toilet it was so painful, but I was told this was normal. Another 5 days and the nurse comes to take out stitches as I cannot go to the surgery I am in that much pain. When the nurse removes the stitches there is a slight leaking, but not much. So she gives me a few large dressings and tells me to change it if it leaks too much, that was at 11 am, by 14.50 the leakage is all over my clothes,my lovely white suite and the floor, where we had to keep dogs away as they were trying to lick it up, we call the lung nurse who recommended we rang 999. 50 mins later I am waiting for a bed in the local hospital, I cannot move, I am struggling to breathe, I feel like I am going to die due to no air in my lungs, the nurse gives me a very, very large shot of morphine, I am crying and giggling, the pain and feelings are bittersweet, also for my husbands emotions too, as he is watching me change from tears of pain to tears of being off my face on morphine.
I am moved to a bed where I spend the next 6 days, I am told nothing apart from the fact I cannot go home and I have to take meds. I am feeling better on the 4th day and I am able to walk the loo and back by myself, before this it was the nurse having to bring the commode or wheel me the loo and back. It is only when I am discharged I find out I have had an infection in my lung. It still hurts but nothing like the pain that was occurring when I was brought into hospital, so I am discharged as I have a husband who can care for me. To be continued….
