Two weeks off!

1 minute read time.

Wow!! infusion bottle of ifosfomide came off today after two weeks and now hubby has two weeks off before starting the next round.  A great step forward although he is not feeling good at all.

He is very, very tired and extremely grumpy and irritable - I have to sidestep his remarks, which under normal circumstances would deserve a response - I am now having to ignore the nasty remarks or sarcasm and I am attributing it all to the chemo.

The doctor at the hospital talked of chemo head - and I found this a good description to describe my husband's inability to grasp what has been said at times, and then get angry when reminded of certain instructions or whatever.  The doctor said this is exactly why they ask for someone to accompany patients as this 'chemo head' often causes confusion.  I take comfort from that as I was getting very upset at the personal nasty digs from hubby.

Hubby is not eating properly - his tastes change daily and his feelings of nausea to certain foods also does the same.  Doctor says he has to eat more protein and although hubby refuses to eat steak unless it is rare ( which is strongly advised against) , I am hoping he will accept other types of meat and increase his intake of them.  The other alternative is to get him some protein shakes and I am going to discuss that with him later.  The Doctor stressed the absolute necessity for keeping the protein intake up to avoid encephalis (hope this spelling is correct).

Our lives now seem to be dictated by chemo timetables and I am becoming increasingly aware of the way the drugs are affecting my husband after the first round.... but at least we have the two weeks off to look forward to and hopefully hubby will gain both physical and mental strength in that time to help him cope with next month's session!

    Hi Diamond,

I was and am still a grumpy old man. How my wife puts up with it I will never know but we understand what is happening and pull together to beat it. Our marriage is stronger than any Cancer or treatment.  All the best for the next fortnight hope you have a great time..  Look after eachother.

Take care and be safe Big Hugs Love Sarsfield.xx
