19 May. And so, it begins. Or at least it will do in three days’ time. Friday 22 May. 10.00am.
“…it has been concluded that there are no curable treatment options for him and his treatment will surround a palliative approach based on symptoms”.
And the point of the 10.00am appointment? Essentially, to secure my legal consent not to receive any potential essential lifesaving medical interventions such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
But that of course is unfair.
It is entirely my choice to end my own life more quickly by refusing any or all medical intervention. After all, why would I want to delay the inevitable?
Not quite assisted dying, more non-assisted dying.
But I’m expecting much more. A better, more positive outcome, such as it can be.
An opportunity to meet those who dedicate their time and expertise to caring and providing the best possible care to manage pain and ensure comfort towards the end of life.
An open and honest conversation on all matters related to in my time of dying.
I’m almost looking forward to it.
