... that following chemoradiotherapy over the summer, the tumour has reduced in size and scans from earlier this week show that there is no spread to other organs. Phew! And Hurrah!
Surgery is scheduled for 17 November. The less happy news is that it will be a permanent colostomy, and the whole rectum and anus will be removed. (Sorry about that for the squeamish or faint-hearted). I knew this was on the cards, but hearing about the detail of the operation and issues which may be faced during recovery tends to make you a bit weepy in front of medical professionals in my limited experience!
However, I am, of course, so glad the cancer will be cut out, dealt with and then I can get on with recovery. Hopefully the worst will be over by Christmas. Back to ballet in January...?! OK, that may be optimistic, but no harm in a bit of ambition at this stage I feel.
It's all going to be OK.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
