End of week 1 - doing OK

1 minute read time.

Tomorrow I start week 2 of chemoradiation. So far I have had one minor side effect with the chemotherapy drugs: nausea. This started after a couple of sets of pills but having experienced morning sickness with both girls I had some tricks up my sleeve to help and marmite on toast saved the day again!

Fortunately after eating my way through a couple of spells of nausea the symptom subsided. I had been a bit worried it might get worse and worse the further into the week I got, but I'm relieved to report that wasn't the case. I've had the weekend off taking the pills so I don't know whether it will all kick in again tomorrow. Time will tell.

I have to assume the radiotherapy is progressing well as there is no way of knowing at this stage. I think I have had some waves of tiredness beyond what would be usual with occasional broken nights and regular early mornings with a light-sleeping toddler. Not sure whether that is chemo, radiotherapy or a bit of general emotional strain. Otherwise I am very happy that my childhood success in games of 'sleeping lions' is being re-lived as stillness on the radiotherapy table. They (the lovely radiotherapists) are confident that I am not moving in between blasts of rays and this speeds the whole process up as there is no need for them to keep coming in and out of the room to check my position.

Some good news is that my sister's baby has been doing brilliantly and if the feeding continues to go well then she should get home this week. It was lovely to see her and her parents in Brighton yesterday. She is still so tiny but so much more beautiful and real baby-like than when I saw her first. She is something like 11 weeks old now but still hasn't reached her due date! Lots of love to you guys - you hopefully won't read this for ages because you'll be too busy rooming in and then taking A home!
