23/12/2020 Consultation With Mr Thomas

1 minute read time.

Today I have a consultation with my surgeon Mr Thomas, just two days before Christmas, so I’m hoping it’s not going to be bad news, not that I want bad news any other time.
Me and my wife drove up to Derby hospital.

We saw one of Mr Thomas’s registrar’s.
He told us they had the histology results, this is the results from my bladder and prostate, which were sent away for further tests.
He told us they found cancer in my prostate, which didn’t come as a surprise, as Dr Szita had explained right from the beginning, that they found this with other patients with bladder cancer.
The good news is, my cancer has not spread anywhere else.
But, I have been advised to have another 3 rounds of chemo, just to make sure.
Dr Szita had previously explained to me, the 3 rounds of chemo after my surgery was not what they would normally offer me, they just wanted to give me the best chance, so it was optional. I took her advice and accepted this offer.

My next urology appointment will be once I have completed the 3 rounds of chemo, this appointment will be via telephone, which is another good sign. If it was more serious, Mr Thomas would want to see me in person.

I will now be having blood tests (apart from blood tests for my chemo) every 3-4 months, then every 6 months, then every 12 months.
I will also be having CT scans, so they can keep an eye on everything.
He had a look and checked my scare and stomach, then told me everything was fine.
So, it was all good news.
