Just touching base!!

Less than one minute read time.

Hi Everyone

Haven't blogged for ages now, Just to let those of you who want to know that i'm well considering!! I hope people who need 'Avastin'  get it as it has lengthened my life to which i'm gratefull for!! Anyone know whats new regarding kidney cancer especially with people like me in the advanced stages?? Also can anyone offer me any advice on employment, I have now been off sick from work for 14months and they have been very good in paying me basic full pay! I have now been called in for an interview at work as still off sick, I think maybe they will ask me of my intentions , but still to sick to work, does anyone know if they will make me redundant or would they pay me off, I've only been there 2 1/2 yrs, my job is a school nurse in a very affluent boarding school.  I will be gutted to leave as this is the best job ever, but can't see myself going back.  Oh well love my new career of now being a full time mum, and now a granny!! All the best everyone xx

    Hi JdC,

I am new to the site, but pleased to hear things are going well for you.

With regards your job - it sounds to me as if they have been very supportive if you have had full basic pay - good on them.  They may have insurance cover which could cover you longer term, depending on the policy.  Otherwise I think it is quite usual for them to give a deadline - basically if you can't return to work by a certain date they will have to replace you on a permanent basis. They may also consider offering you an alternative position that is more suited to your ongoing capabilities in view of your illness - if there is anything. If not, it sounds as if you will shortly become a full time mum as a full time career move.  Unless the job itself is being made redundant they aren't obliged to pay redundancy.  You should have an employment policy that gives details of the procedure for long term sick.  Ask them to email it to you in advance of your meeting as it may help if you have questions.

    Good Luck!

    CD xx

  • Hi Jilly,

I'm sure the people at Macmillan can offer advice on employment. Go to the Home Page and scroll down to find the 'phone number and a place to post messages. Hope you get it sorted soon.

    Best wishes,
