Hello Steve ... I'm sorry that you are feeling so tired and down, but I do understand as six years ago I had surgery / radiotherapy ( no chemo ) for floor of mouth cancer and the RT really floored me. The extreme tiredness from the radiation can be expected and it can take some time to recover from ... even now I can't do late nights !

I just found the best thing was to listen to my body and rest / sleep whenever I felt the need to ... it's Nature's way of helping your body to heal and recover from all the traumas thrown at it. As my Consultant once said, there's no accelerator pedal to getting better - it takes time.

Do join the site's Head and Neck Cancer group and post there, Steve ... we are a friendly bunch and try to offer help and support where we can. Take care x

    Hi Steve

Sorry to hear you are feeling fatigued.

I finished chemo (6 month regime) June last year and my onc said I would be back to normal by Nov!!!!

I was still fatigued up until May this year, a fatigue no one tells you about....I got up tired after a good 10 hours sound sleep only to feel tired all day.....the feeling I can only describe as a tiredness that was painful I was unable to concentrate on anything not even follow a conversation I was soooo tired.

After going to my GP he said it was normal....I was unable to function, work, read or follow a TV programme. So I took matters in my own hands and did some research on the net as I was so desperate and to cut a long story short I found I was malnourished and started juicing greens and added spirrulina and macca to my drinks and ate whole foods included lots of raw vegan foods and my energy and vitality levels have increased so much I cant believe I am the same person. I jacked in my job and have gone back to college and hope to change my career to support people living with cancer. You can give it a go will only help...no trips to the pharmacy needed.

I know it may not suite everyone but looking at what you eat may be a good start.

    I hope my info helps.

    Hope your feeling better soon

    Fabio

    Hi Steve.

Sorry to hear that you are feeling so tired and down in the dumps.  I can relate to what you are saying.  I finished chemo and rt last July and I can still feel the effects sometimes.

It does improve but I found it to be frustratingly slow progress.  I would say it was six months before I got over the worst of it.  I still have to go to bed early as I need at least 9 hours sleep a night.

I know it's difficult but you have to be patient and give your body all the time it needs.  Just know you are not alone.

    Take care x
