Chemo Angels

1 minute read time.
Hi there, I just want to tell you all about a volunteer organisation called Chemo Angels. Basically, you sign up (if you are having treatment) and you get assigned a chemo angel and they send you little cards, notes and sometimes gifts to cheer you up. Every week I would get a card (and sometimes a gift) from my chemo angel. It really, really did cheer me up and it gave me something to look forward to. My chemo angel always gave me words of encouragement and she would tell me all about her travels (she travels around the world with her job) I 'graduated' from chemo angels about a month after I finished treatment and for the last gift I got was a big package. When signing up, I filled out the form and was asked to write down if I collect anything (I collect shot glasses) and I opened the parcel and my chemo angel had got me 7 shot glasses, each from a different country around the world. Inside each shot glass there was a piece of paper and she'd wrote down where she got them from and told me a little story about what she did while she was in that country. I was so touched that she'd done that for me. I have kept everything that she sent me, sometimes she would send me a chocolate bar or a little magnet with an inspirational quote on it. Everything she sent me was so thoughtful. On St Patricks Day I got a parcel from her and it had a green feather boa, funny glasses in it and lots of little funny St Patricks day related gifts! Anyway, I thought I would put the link in this blog just in case any of you fancy having a chemo angel. I really would recommend having one - mine certainly helped me through some really tough times. There's loads more information on the website, here's the link: http://www.chemoangels.net/ Hayley

There's also a similar scheme for children, it's called Postpals & is fantastic for kids that are undergoing treatment. http://www.postpals.co.uk/

Hayley,  thanks for that information.  I have volunteered my services as a chemo angel and am now awaiting confirmation of acceptance (or not) as they see fit.  It is a double sided benefit.  If accepted, the person to whom I am assigned will benefit from a little outside support and I will benefit from being able to offer some tangible show of support. I had never heard of this group before, so once again,  thank you x x x

Aww, that's lovely that you've volunteered. I'd like to volunteer but I'm only 19 so I'm not allowed, tut!! Anyway, I think it's lovely what you're doing and I'm sure you'll really help someone out x x x

Hayley, I was accepted and have now started to do my "Angel" duties.   I do hope that I can make my angel buddy's life a little more cheery.  I am charting unknown waters here, so I hope that I can do a good job.   Thank you so much for the link. Take care Hayley. x x x p.s. chemoangels does cater for children too and elders in the community who may be in need of a little bit of cheer.
