Had my 2nd day of R-CHOP chemotherapy on 6th November

2 minute read time.

Hello All!

Hope you're all doing OK as you can do being effected by this horrible disease.

I thought it might be helpful to some of you to share what I have experienced so far during having my treatment.

I had my 2nd full day (plugged in from 9am-5.30pm) on Thursday 6th November of R-CHOP chemotherapy. I had asked my lovely nurse if she would pop the injection in my left hand so I could message/eat with my right but struggled so after having both hand battered with a needle had no hands in action! I think I'll stick with my right had next time. I left the hospital feeling exhausted in a wheel chair but made sure I took a photo on exiting to send out to friends and family with the line '2 down 4 to go'…which I tend to see out at the end of every treatment. It gives me a boost so why not.

I arrived home and felt OK until about 8pm then the sickness well and truly kicked in. I had already had an Ondansetron before leaving the hospital so tried liquorice and flat coke, the flat coke seams to work well. Although I was exhausted I had to wait to until the sickness had gone to lie down as it felt like I was on a boat! I finally got to bed but felt my throat was getting sore.

Day 1 after R-CHOP chemo (Friday 7th Nov)

I woke up feeling very sick, exhausted, constipated and generally run down. As well as my meds I tried flat coke again which helped. I also managed to stomach Bran Flakes (which helped constipation) topped with Goji berries (full of Vit C) and Linseeds (also helps constipation).

Day 2 ( Saturday 8th Nov)

I still felt very sick but also developed pains in my face, this is something I expected as I had experienced this with my first treatment, this is a side effect of the Vincristine (O part of the R-CHOP), for this I take co-codamol and hold a heated herbal bag on my face.

Day 3 (Sunday 9th Nov)

I was awake at 3am in agony with my throat and hardly had a voice so we contacted the out of hours ward who suggested I go to a&e but could wait until morning if my temperature stayed brow 37.5, which it did so I went to the out of hours doctor in the morning who gave me penicillin.

Day 4 (Monday 10th Nov)

Sickness had eased but still felt bad with throat, I spoke to my specialist nurse for further advise who then requested I go to the hospital for a chest X-ray and for different medication. The X-ray came back clear and I was prescribed Ciprofloxacin, Fluoconazole and advised to use Nystan for thrush in gullet. They also told me that my tumour which is high grade and was 4inches is now almost invisible on the X-ray

Day 5 (Today Tuesday 11th Nov)

Still feeling rough today and had pains in my chest, again this I experienced last time and I have been advised this is the treatment working on the effected area, which I can now believe. I have been feeling pretty low today being stuck on the sofa with rubbish TV but seemed to have picked up this evening, apart from feeling slightly nauseous, so decided to write this blog.

Would love to hear from your experience and hope I haven't bored you and have helped in some way….?!
