Hello, I work as a volunteer in a Macmillan cancer support and information centre, Middlesbrough. Has anyone out there had any contact with such centres, and how usefull was the experience.

I attend a mac centre in Guildford THE BEACON,  it's brilliant, I meet staff and lots of volunteers. So pleased we have one near to where I live and within a cars journey for me!

We can just sit and talk, do crafts, have lunch, stay on in the pm and take part in an open forum for the wellbeing group led by the psychologist, get our hands massage, do relaxation and keep up to date with all our scans and queries we have!

    I have found it invaluable.

I have attended the one in the West Cumberland Hospital the advice was great & it was really good for me to be able to talk to someone.

    Keep up the good work.

I got in touch with one of our local centres the other day to volunteer my services.  They are advertising for an office bod.  Never heard from them again.  Won't bother any more, if they can't even be polite enough to call back then screw 'em.

    Cheers,  Mike
