making the most of my time

Less than one minute read time.

Hi,

Here I am sitting on my daughters computer, after I have done my 'grandma' bit, and taken the girls to school.  My daughter is doing teaching practice, and has had to find child care to cope with the extra time it takes to be a 'teacher' rather than a TA, and each time she needed help over the last two years I have been having treatment, so this time I'm pulling my weight.  How do you fill your time in somebody elses house during school hours?  I don't like to interfere too much with the routine, and don't feel fit enought to go out all day, doing  the school run to two different schools is enough.  I suppose the ironing is the only answer....... and I don't like doing mine that much!!  At least I can't do wrong with that, so where's that iron?

If only you were spending time in my house....  forget the ironing and sit and stroke the dogs as they gaze lovingly into your eyes... oh and apple pies that only a grnadma can make [I have very fond memories of my own grandma making the most amazing apple pies] then there is the pairing of odd socks... so many in a house full of teenagers... and just where do they all go? After this there is the pesky hems on all sorts of things that wonderweb just doesn't have the sticking power to fix once and for all... if your daughter is teaching now then she will have lots of lesson preparation to do... my daughter just qualified as a TA and she was forever cutting things out of magazines and printing things off the PC... so how about a Teaching Assistant role for you?

Then there is  time for you to learn a language.. you can do it online and it is fun try www.busuu.com you can do it  for free and make friends in other countries too... correct their English whilst someone corrects your chosen language..

Hope I gave you some ideas...  have a wonderful time being grandma

    Hi greybadger,

Well - there's reading, daytime TV (slightly better if they have cable tv) or taking up a nice hobby like knitting, embroidery or jigsaws...boy...I must be getting old if these are my best suggestions...

Very best wishes for your health and that of your loved ones,

    Hope x.

    Hi Viv,

I'm sure your daughter will appreciate the ironing but don't spend too much of your time on housework! Do something for you as well and enjoy being a grandma.

Look after yourself and feel well,

                      Love lizzie xx
