Start of November I had a follow up scan and it showed very little growth since the surgery. My scar had healed well and I was fine to begin a 5 days a week, 6-week course of intensive radio/chemotherapy. 1st week was scheduled in the middle of November which would take me up to New Years Eve. Due to my age and health I would be getting the highest and longest course available.
Went into Guy’s Hospital to have my Radiotherapy mask fitted, which was a unique experience but again one of those situations where if you close your eyes and just think of something else it makes it a lot easier to deal with.
I finally received the biopsy result and it confirmed that the cancer was a GBM4 malignant cancer and unfortunately that it was IDH Wild Type unmethylated at 4.5%. Massively disappointed and a big setback as it meant that the cancer would be highly resistant to chemotherapy and even a long way off the 10% low end threshold. My prognosis was now likely to be in the 12-18 month region.
Due to my diagnosis I was eligible to sign up for an Immunotherapy trial and I had until January to decide whether I wanted to join. After receiving the news of the unmethylated status of my cancer I was practically willing to accept anything at this point.
Tolerated the first weeks of radio/chemotherapy treatment well without any noticeable issues. It was almost like a replacement for work as I was travelling back and forth each day to the hospital which required a train into the City that I would have been taken normally.
