hi, i'm a new member

Less than one minute read time.

i didn't realise that so many elderly ladies are affected by breast cancer. My mom is 81 and was diagnosed in july. She has had a mastectomy and node clearance and is having radiotherapy. Is there anyone else who has had this experience?

  • Hi gillflower

I think the majority of breast cancer affect women over 60.

I was 58 when diagnosed with lobular breast cancer and had a mastectomy and node clearance, chemo and radiotherapy. I finished treatment in Nov 08 and now take Arimidex. Am due to have a reconstruction in the New Year.

I wish your Mum all the best with her treatment.

Hi Gillflower, welcome, and i hope you

find what your looking for here. The thing

is cancer doesn.t care what age a person

is, young or old.My Gran was 96 when she got breast cancer, she didn,t have a

mastectomy, at her age she thought it was pointless, but she went on to live till

she was 99years young so that cant be

bad can it. As a nurse caring for people

with terminal cancer i have seen quite a

few ladies near the 100 age with cancer.

So you could say your mum is still a

young lady. I hope her treatment goes

well for her, and you call in anytime, there

are many people on here going thru the

same worry as yourself, and we will all do

our best to help you along the way.

    With Love Lucylee. xx

A lump was found in my 80 year old mum's breast last week. Her first appointment with a consultant is next week-very worried as she has dementia as well   and doesn't know what is happening-anyone else had the same experience?
