Advanced melonoma - Post op.Lymphendectomy

Less than one minute read time.

My partner had his op on 23rd July. They were only able to remove 2 of the nodes. (They had planned to remove 4) he was discharged less than 24 hrs later into my care. None of his wounds were dressed. He had no disharge information (no post operative care) we are now waiting to hear about any follow up treatment. Is this "normal".

    Hi Louise

Is anything normal in melanoma treatment?  We are all treated differently depending on hospital, surgeon etc.  After care should be just the same as after all his previous ops, keep it clean and keep it dry.

Let us know how he gets on.

You have every reason to complain about this  via PALs, and I think I would if you can find the time, - that type of treatment is not good enough.

You can also rate the hospital via NHS choices, - you don't have to leave your name.

The same is happening to my uncle after a major op for eosophageal cancer. Keyhole and opening up  the rib cage from the right hand side. He was sent home far too soon after only 9 days. With no care plan he had no info at all just a letter with his medication listed and noting what op he had.

They are both in their 70's they have no idea what help if any is available. Even after ringing the hospital and the local GP. his Macmillan nurse is on holiday. A locum doctor came after the first very long weekend. He had no dressings he used tissues and a sticking plaster from my Aunties medicine chest for the large infected drain wound. A few days later a phlebotamist came to take some blood. A nurse was promised but failed to turn up A night nurses visit was promised but she didn't show up. A nurse came the following day she attended his wounds but he has gone down hill fast with an infection. In the 12 days since leaving hospital he has gone from being very positive a strong man to being a man with very little hope in his his eyes. Can anyone tell me if aftercare something one can expect or is this normal.
