Doctors!!

Less than one minute read time.
so i went to have my usual 3 monthly check up today with the same consultant i always see,I told her I have been having a lot of pain in the leg that i had the melanoma removed from it is constantly aching right up my leg&sometimes i get shooting pains this has been happening for the last 2 or 3 weeks. She didnt seem at all concerned as she said the melanoma i had was relatively thin, she said if the pains dont go away to go back and they will x-ray it!Surely she should just have sent me for an x-ray today rather than put it off until it gets worse!Im not saying it is anything sinister but surely it is better to be safe than sorry! Hope ur all well love Gemma xx

Hi Gemma, I agree and I had a terrible experience during my first check up last week, so much so that I am going back again next week!!! I felt that my concerns were dismissed and was made to feel paranoid, even the nurse who sat in on the consultation told me to come back and see someone who 'knows what they are doing' and who would be able to reassure me!

Your pains probably are nothing to worry about, but surely an x-ray would have been a quick and easy way to find out for sure and to put your mind at rest. I am fed up, as you probably are, being told your melanoma was thin so you 'should' be fine. Hopefully we will be but with a recent diagnosis of a very nasty cancer, we have every right to be worried, and after all, the doctors don't know who will be in the 5-10% who won't be fine!

Sorry that was a bit of a rant, think melanoma may have turned me into one of those 'complaining types' aarrgggh!!!

Hi Caroline,I totally agree with you on this,I am so sick&tired of being fobbed off and made to feel like a paranoid wreck!!

I had a sentinel node biopsy done on my groin&the consultant is putting the pains down to that!

You are right caroline we have had a very nasty form of cancer which can be very unpredictable so surely the doctors etc shouldnt be so laid back about it!If im still in pain next week i will go to my own gp who is much more understanding!

I hope you get better treatment at your next appointment, dont you leave that room untill you are completely satisfied!!

    Gemma

I was going to ask if you had had a biopsy in your groin, as I couldn't remember!!  I had the full hit as you know, and also suffered from shooting pains in my leg, especially when standing.  I think this is in the main due to nerve damage, those surgeons aren't exactly gentle, and there can be considerable damage to the nerves and connective tissues.  Nerves can form incorrect connections when they knit back together which produces altered sensations.  Also damage to the connective tissue doesn't just affect the particular area of surgery, my physiotherapist demonstrated this with me, even though the op was in my groin, the effects can be felt as far down as my ankle.

If I were you Gemma, I would go back to my GP, not because I think it's anything serious, because I don't, but a referral to a physiotherapist might do you the world of good.
