2nd FEC - feeling fed up

Less than one minute read time.

Just had second FEC. Wasn't too bad last time.  This time spent next day in bed.  Was up yesterday and went for very short walk.  Went for walk this morning but feel fed up, feel like I might be developing bladder infection and have pain in arm where lymph nodes removed.  Wore cold cap both times but head is going quite bald on top of head. Been advised not to wash hair or brush it.  How does that work? My hair looks awful.  Any advice.  I have a wig.  Should I just get it all shaved off, cut very short and leave it and see how bad it gets.  Any info or support gratefully received.

Hi, I found when I was losing my hair, the actual losing it was worse than anything. I lost mine very quickly, a week after my first chemo. Started to come out a couple of days after it finished. I originally had it down to past my shoulders so got it cut up ina bob to ease it in. Then I couldn't take the hair everywhere anymore and plus the bald patch looks worse that the no hair at all, so i got it cut right up into my scalp. Very sad, but also kind of empowering. Something you can take control off. They advise you not to shave as it can lead to ithyness.

I now love my wig, although it will never replace my actual hair, I get lots of compliments on it from people that don't know. It's also quite fun to try another colour. I also have so many scarves as people bought me lots, it was there way of helping.

All I can is embrace it. Bald is beautiful.

Thank you for your reply erianno.  Good advice about not having it shaved because this is all I have heard to do so far and I don't want to add itchy scalp to my list of complaints! Did you go to the hairdressers to get it cut?  Have you finished your chemo now?

Hi, i think how you're feeling is its all out of your control, thats how i felt, its a scary place. When your on chemo drink lots as you need to flush the toxins away, also keeps your mouth fresh. I used the cold cap and my hair thinned on top, the nurse needs to really pull it down hard so no air is trapped, so the freezing temp will retract the blood vessels, mine stopped falling out after 3, you couldn't really notice it either. flatten the pockets of space with your hands it all helps.

Keep smilin', its hard at the beginning, but you can do it!

awwww... its crap isnt it... i had 8 fec 100... fisrt two were the worst... ended up in hospital for 4 days after the first.... but it got better... even he fatigue wasnt so bad near the end.... i had my daughter shave my head... and it had been very long... but although losing it wasnt good ..i felt losing it in one fell swoop was better than watching it fall out... and ..honestly... it wasnt that bad being bald. i mostly didnt wear the wigs as i found them hot and uncomfortable... and the "i have cancer" bandannas really didnt appeal to me.. so i sewed a cut up wig into a couple of base ball caps and when it was sunny or too cold i wore them... personally i thing full bald looks better than patchy bald.(and i`m a hairdresser lol)

your going through hell just now... so whatever works for you is the best ... we can only tell you our opinions.... good luck with everything

I'm still getting chemo, my treatment is a year, well just under. Started in august, finish in june. Long time, but it'll be worth it.

I actually go it cut in the hospital, the place that supplies the wigs sent a girl up to do it all. They were really great and brought up a range of wigs. It was all free too! You should ask your hospital about it, or macmillan. All the best with your treatment, battle on and take time for yourself, remember you can be selfish and not feel guilty about it! x
